Exercise is as important for the human body as oiling is to a machine. It not only keeps you healthy but also supports mental, emotional and overall well being. A regular workout regime burns all excess calories and does not allow unnecessary fat deposits in your body thereby preventing many lifestyle diseases like obesity and heart problems in the long run. There are several workout trends and regimes that you can follow which not only gives you a healthy body, but also makes exercising fun.

The most popular and widely followed workout regime remains the old school exercising forms (i.e. cardiovascular exercises combined with weight training). These can be as easily done at home with a cheap set of weights that you can buy from a yard sale. Do not go out and throw away good money on expensive weights at a sporting goods store. Cardio exercises aim at weight loss and comprise activities like running, jogging, bicycling, elliptical trainer, aerobics etc. This is an essential and inevitable part of any workout regime and goes a long way in keeping you healthy. Weight training refers to training with weighted bars, stacks or dumbbells to enhance muscle tone and increase muscle strength. Though mild weight training can be done at home, it is recommended that you consult a good trainer as an incorrectly done workout can hurt you.

There are several alternative forms of exercise like Yoga, Tai Chi, exergaming (video games helping in brain exercises), deep water running and swimming that help you have a healthy body, mind, and soul. There are other new trends of exercising that have become very popular over the last few years. The latest favorite among celebrities is Pilates which not only gives a toned and healthy look but also is flattering to the curves. You can also treat fun outdoor hobbies like dancing, cycling, skating, skiing, rock climbing etc. as forms of workout. These fun ways of exercise can be done in groups and serve the dual purpose of recreation as well as a healthy workout.
