Health Insurance in the United States falls into three major categories, Commercial, or Private Health Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. "U.S. News" has released their 2009-10 rankings of the top health insurance plans from all three categories, and the Insurance Companies who offer them, based on data collected by The National Committee for Quality Insurance. |
The top five commercial health insurance companies ranked in 2009-10 were
- Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HMO/POS): Massachusetts and Maine
- Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England (HMO/POS): New Hampshire
- Tufts Associated Health Maintenance Organization (HMO/POS): Massachusetts and Rhode Island
- Grand Valley Health Plan (HMO): Michigan
- Capital Health Plan (HMO): Florida
These companies ranked highly for care and communication received from doctors and specialists alike within the networks, for their claims handling and customer service and in preventative services, including those for children, women and cancer. Medicare is a social insurance program for persons aged 65 and over and those with disabilities, administered by the United States Government. Consumers of these services rated companies on member satisfaction in regards to the receiving of service and care provided doctors and specialists and the use of the plan overall. They also rated on the provision of preventative services including immunization, physical and mental health evaluation and various types of health screenings.
